Portfolio of the week
Who are you?
I'm Simone Rudloff, 25 years old and living in Hamburg, Germany. I grew up in Byron Bay, the most easterly point of Australia and went traveling through Europe for several months before moving to London and eventually Hamburg where I freelance in fashion & advertising photography. Somehow 3 months traveling turned into 7 years and counting.
I wouldn’t define my work as work because it’s something I enjoy doing so much. Whether working in big teams or one on one with a model/subject, my work is a constant creative process that never gets boring!
What is your next creative project?
I’m currently opening a photo studio/event space in Hamburg with my boyfriend (also a photographer) which we plan on renting out and using ourselves. We’ve spent 6 months renovating and are officially opening at the end of November!
And I’m writing a book at the moment, but I haven’t set a deadline yet because the process of just writing is so enjoyable.
How would you describe your work?
I like to let things happen naturally during a shoot. For me, it's important to capture the feeling of a certain moment and to capture the presence and charisma of my subject. I like to let things happen naturally during a shoot rather than planning out each shot perfectly. It’s usually a collaboration between the model and myself moving together. The result is generally edgy and spontaneous, fun and quirky.
Who are your biggest influences in the industry?
Driely Carter for being ruthlessly herself and producing some of the most incredible work I’ve ever seen. i-D & Dazed and Confused Magazine are also big inspirations for me - & 2 magazines I’d love to shoot for.
What's your favorite coffee place in Hamburg?
At my studio! We use Carroux Coffee which is roasted here in Hamburg.
What do you like about Portfoliobox?
It's easy to understand and use, and it gives you the freedom to layout text and images however you want. And the best part is, you can still edit it if you change your mind or want to completely change your website without having to upload everything again.
